Participate in More Bids

A major portion of a sales engineer's time involves reading bid documents and filling in customer's data sheets. With traditional tools, both of these tasks must be done by an experienced engineer. Every customer's data sheets are different, and we rely on context to determine the meaning of all of the terms.

With ISO 15926 we will no longer have to rely on context of an entire data sheet to determine what every term means. It will be possible for software to do the first pass analysis, proposing a short list of equipment that matches a customer's requirements. Depending on the nature of the equipment, it may be possible to totally automate bidding, or have a human engineer review the computer's selection and approve.

With computers doing the first-pass classification, it will be possible for a given number of human engineers to participate in more bids.

More Accurate Data Sheets

When suppliers receive data sheets from engineers, it is typical for many of the terms to be left to the suppliers discretion. Design engineers fill in the terms they care about, letting the supplier fill in remaining terms. But a major source of liability for equipment manufacturers is properly interpreting customer-supplied information. With traditional methods relying on human interpretation, every interaction with a customer's data sheet is an opportunity for an error.

This is especially important for suppliers of high-volume, commodity items where many variables affect the correct selection. If an error is made in one term, a different (and incorrect) device might be specified.

With ISO 15926 sales engineers will no longer have interpret and fill in customer's data sheets. Instead, the supplier will expose the relevant information on it's façade for the engineer's software to interrogate. The engineer's plant design system will simply query the supplier's system and pull back the data values it needs. EPCs and OEMs will no longer have to manually read each other's data sheets to understand the meaning of terms, because the full meaning of each data value is embedded within the term.

More Accurate Information Hand over

When we no longer need human intervention to fill in data sheets, information hand over to the owner will be more reliable.

Expose Catalogue But Retain Control

Depending on the nature of its business, a manufacturer may be able to expose more of its product line publicly. When there is no danger of incorrect interpretation, because the software on both sides uses the same ISO 15926 definitions, there is no need for human involvement, if the human involvement was for the purpose of accurately interpreting needs.

Where human intervention is required for business needs, for example, to start a personal relationship, the supplier will have complete control over what is exposed.
